changes to the management of Crown Lands in NSW – what does it mean?

There are plans to change the management and legislative framework for Crown Lands in NSW (excluding national parks and state forests).

EDO NSW (Environment Defenders Office) says the White Paper proposes significant shifts in management and potential commercialisation or sale of Crown Lands, but provides limited analysis or detail about the implications of this in a number of important areas.

EDO’s concerns include: (more…)

5 meter building setbacks … a positive start

Community members recently sent nearly 300 submissions to Hunters Hill Council saying they want the development at Gladesville Shopping Village to be a sympathetic and positive segment of the community’s built environment.

Members of Council have now called for the reinstatement of the previous 5 meter setbacks on Cowell and Flagstaff streets.  This as a positive start to the review of the Development Control Plan.

The local paper describes this idea as a ‘setback to progress.’?!

Gladesville Shopping Village DA withdrawn

Moch Pty Ltd has withdrawn its DA for the proposed mixed use commercial and residential flat buildings at Gladesville Shopping Village.

They have now engaged new consultants (architects, town planners, traffic engineers, etc) to assist them in the preparation of a new development application and have instructed their consultants to consult with the community about the new proposal.

We shall see how it all unfolds.

Changes to how Crown Land will be managed

The NSW Government has completed a review into the management of Crown Land in NSW.  It proposes to develop one new piece of legislation to replace eight existing Acts and will have very important implications for who manages Crown Land and how Crown Land is managed.

Gladesville Shopping Village update

Following outrage from hundreds of community members and organisations as well as a critical report from Architectus, the developers are amending their plans for the GSV development to address the many points raised.

Amended plans will be re-advertised and further submissions called for before Architectus make another report.  The Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP) will not be involved until this process is complete and, judging by the developer’s first attempt, the amended plans may not necessarily progress directly to the JRPP.

The story is not over yet.   We will need to watch this space.gladesville village

Update on NSW Planning Bills

The Minister has made no announcement on what he intends to do, so it seems he hasn’t been able to make a deal with the Upper House and is unwilling to accept the amended Planning Bills.  We expect he will probably amend the existing planning system through the use of State Environmental Planning Policies.

deal makingThe Planning Assessment Commission (PAC), the state’s top planning body which considers the largest and most controversial developments in NSW, looks like a rubber stamp.  It has no independent resources to make assessments so 95% of matters follow the Planning Department’s  recommendations.  See for yourself:  PAC’s decisions
