The developers of Gladesville Shopping Village have come back with a new proposal following the vehement community opposition to their original plans.
They now propose
- 25 storeys
- 90 meters high
- 350 apartments
- with a floor space ratio of 4:1
To put this in perspective:
Blues Point Tower is 25 storeys
the Sydney Harbour Bridge is 114 meters high
I understood the overwhelming response from the first proposal was that the 11 storey buildings were too high. They’ve now responded by proposing a 25 storey building. They also plan to increase the number of apartments from 180 to 300. This is absolutely absurd and shows that the developers have total disregard to the public!
Most people I spoke too would have been ok with a development going up 5-6 storys. This is in-line with many other developments in Gladesville. Instead they are looking at developing a Top-Ryde equivalent building in Gladesville. Crazy!
The scale and height of the development is far in excess of what is appropriate for Gladesville. No amount of set back or public space can offset something of this size. The Blues Point Tower is also 25 storeys tall!
Totally agree with those comments ..but I am more concerned that the community focus is on the extreme 25 story block and we all forget about the other four equally objectionable (& equally inappropriate) apartment blocks. Lets imagine the NSW Planning dept and Council ask for a reduction in the 25 storey block…and the compromise is that Gladesville VILLAGE gets a complex which includes 2 x 15 storey apartment block plus 1 x 11 storey apartment block plus 2 x 8 storey blocks. That is a suburb changer in itself !
