Guided tour of Gladesville Hospital

Clock Tower (original grain store), Image 1973

Gladesville Hospital, originally known as Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum, was designed by the Colonial Architect, Mortimer Lewis.  The first patients arrived from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory at Parramatta in 1838. The site contains many buildings that are listed on the Register of the National Estate.

Peter Colthorpe, from Friends of Gladesville Hospital will lead Hunters Hill Trust members and their guests through the beautiful site and introduce the main heritage buildings.  Peter has extensive knowledge of the site and its structures and will be leading us past many of its lovely sandstone buildings to Bedlam Bay, then to the Superintendent’s building, through the old asylum area and finally to the cemetery.

When:  Sunday May 27th   Enquiries:  members@huntershilltrust.org.au
